May have found the cause of the dreaded "gearbox malfunction light"
Hello again everyone and sorry to keep posting about the same issue. About a week ago I mentioned in a different post that I was getting the dreaded Gearbox Malfunction icon and my 2012 Audi A7 would not start for a couple of minutes. My independent shop scanned the car again today and they found this code: found tsb 2030580/13 for sporadic no start and transmission control module locked fault. At times key will not transmit all data to the comfort module. comfort module software will need to be updated and key possibly replaced. Software will have to be updated at the dealer.
As you can read in the diagnosis, I may have to have the immobilizer re flashed and only the dealer can do this. Worst case scenario I may have to replace both key fox and have them re programmed I am guessing at around $450 each. Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Any ideas on how much a re flash costs?? I am including a copy of the bulletin and it affect several Audi models.
Thanks and best regards.

I recently purchased a 2012 Audi A7 3.0 Prestige, the error you mentioned had occurred a few times. I made an appt with the dealer, they did update the software....we are now monitoring to see if the error pops again. If it does reappear, it will require replacing key fobs. Fingers crossed....
My flash process at the Audi dealer was $150.00....key fob replacement is about $500 (if necessary).

Thanks for your comment Big Fun and Alpine Al. So far the car has worked fine and just occasionally it will click twice and then will fire up. According to the bulletin I may have to replace the fobs since mine is an early production car and according to the bulletin the re flash alone will not do the trick. I have also noticed that the problem happens more frequently when the Bluetooth in my Iphone is on. Go figure. I know that the fobs are very expensive and I don;t need to have the keys re cut, just re programmed. Cheers and Happy Spring.
