Sorry, should have clarified - the French police use motorcycles to provide overwatch on their secondary routes. Got hit with a 90 euro ticket for doing the equivalent of 80 in a 70 zone. For other countries you may visit, here is a simple guide to avoid fines. Germany and France rely on cameras mounted on overpasses and poles on the Autobahn and Autoroute respectively. Austria uses patrols and word to the wise - set your cruise at or below the posted speed limit because Austria doesn't play. Fines are expected to be paid on the spot and if you don't have the euro, they will escort you to an ATM. In Italy, well, do what you want because they really don't care on the Autostrada. Enjoy your travels in Europe and become familiar with the signs on the Autobahn that mark the 'unlimited' speed limit zones - that's where you'll be able to enjoy the Audi as she was meant to be.

I can live with that. I was afraid that you would say that Audi's were targeted to be stolen. We have driven in France, Spain, Austria and oh yes Italy in past trips. Drove Peugeot's and Seat's and stayed out of the left lane where the Audi's fly, excepts for occasional passing of slow vehicles. We love driving in Italy. I never saw anyone getting a speeding ticket. September won't come fast enough for me. Do you think i will need to purchase locking lug nuts in Ingolstadt? The car will be in Hotel and Public parking for 2 weeks.

dalek,
I use the French because they had a choice of whom to pull over, me or the Bimmer I was passing (we were both over the limit). I lost. I'm not gonna say don't buy the lug nuts but if you're worried, it would be cheaper than replacing the wheels and tires! As you know, most hotels here have private parking in their courtyard or a parking building nearby. I would say to avoid the public parking unless they have a watchman posted.

It looks like Truphone is reducing their rates from $0.15/MB to $0.09/MB on July 1, 2014 for the US. Other reductions also in other parts of the world. http://www.truphone.com/us/LP/hello-world/
