Default Tech Questions

I thought I'd start a new thread to ask (and consolidate) some tech questions about our new car. For folks like me who have ordered but yet to recieve their new cars and are just anxiuos to know about all the "bells and whistles". As well as those just trying to understand the A7 before they buy and maybe some current owners who'd just like to know too.

Many of our answers could be addressed already within this forum or at Audi's website but I wondered if readers here would enjoy having those questions asked and answered here. Anyway, here's a start;

1) Up to 4 bluetooth devices can be paired. My wife & I both have phones. I was wondereing, can it pair with her phone vs. mine WITHOUT going through the MMI to change it? I though I'd read/heard somewhere it will do that by pairing with the 1st. in the car, is that true?

2)Are their U.S. drivers using the heads up display who can share photos of the display on the windshield? Glare issues? Is it worth it for you? You already have a display in front of the streeing wheel, is it not redundant? Other comments on the HUD?

3) Transferring files to the jukebox. Can you use a thumb drive or do you use the SD (preference?)??

4) Does the supplied cable have a standard sized female usb connection?

Again just a start. I hope others find it useful.

1. Yes. That is standard Blutooth behaviour.

2. I have HUD and use it all the time. It is a great reminder of your speed right in front of you. My wife has commented that I am driving much more responsibly (her words) since I got the car with the HUD.

The only time I had an issue seeing the display was driving against the setting sun.

3. I am using SD cards as I don't have a USB cable (see point 4.)

4. The cable that came with the car is an iPhone/iPad cable. The optional USB cable does have a female Type A connector.

Thanks for the response. More questions;

1) How effective is the night vision with the HUD?

2) A poster on another thread mentions a "lag" or freezing/re-start using the SD cards. Anyone having a similar experience?

3) Blind spot warning. As I understand it, this only works if you have the turn signal activated. True? Is warning with both left & right side mirrors?

1. The night vision has nothing to do with the HUD. The image from the night vision camera displays on the dash screen, between the tach and speedo.

2. Can't comment on that, I have not paid attention to it and only started using an SD card 3 days ago.

3. The blind spot warning is a Godsend! The blindspot in the A7 is large and the thick column between the front and rear windows is right in your face as you turn your head to the left to look back (at least it is in my face, the way I sit in the car). If there is a vehicle in your blind spot, the yellow LED-s in the outside mirror housing light up with normal, steady brightness. If you put your turn signal on, the same lights start flashing with high intensity. So it works all the time, but gives you additional (and very effective) warning if you signal your intention to change lanes but you shouldn't. It works the same way on both outside mirrors.

Thanks for the responses. I guess a better question on the HUD then is what info does it display? I know it shows speed, nav directions, & changes to adaptive cruise settings. Anything else?

No, that's it

For the adaptive cruise control it actually shows if there is a car in front of you (within detection range) or not and how close it is.

With your experience with the SD card, are folders supported? I have each album in it's own folder, if you play the songs in a folder, will it then move to the next folder or will you have to select the next folder to play? Can you do shuffle within a folder and can you shuffle all folders?

Yes, I have subfolders under subfolders and it is fully supported. You can go up and down the tree and open any folder you wish. If it comes to the end of the last file in a folder, it goes to the first file in the next folder down the tree that contains files.

I have no experience with the shuffle (random play) function, never used it.
