Terrible Gas Mileage? New Member Help

Similarly Poor Gas Mileage
Hey guys -
So I picked up my new 2014 A7 TFSI from the dealer about a month ago. I could go on and on about its beauty and performance but that's been said many times before. I love the car, but am astonished at the very low gas mileage I'm getting. In city driving, I'm averaging between 10-12 /MPH, and on the highway around 17-18 / MPH.
I live in Santa Monica, CA and drive city about 90% of the time, most of which avoids stop-and-go traffic. I certainly don't accelerate hard most of the time, but here and there I do. Most of the time, the Auto drive function is on and I usually take short trips (30min max). In every other car I've driven, I usually average right around the EPA benchmark. But this car is killing me with this terrible efficiency.
If I knew it would be this bad, I would have gotten the TDI instead. Do you guys have any idea what's wrong?

I have a 2012 Prestige with 20" wheels, non-sport, at 5600 miles (I mainly drive in the city in stop-go traffic for a short commute). Like the poster, I get about 11 mpg for city driving based on the instant mileage figure shown on the dash, but 20+ mpg for highway driving. Dealer said that's normal for hard city driving.

CA has a maximum octane rating of 91 vs 93 in the rest of the US.
CA also uses 10% ethanol blends, and ethanol returns ****ty fuel mileage because it has less energy density than gasoline.
OP: Take a trip to Vegas, Phoenix, Palm Springs, Santa Ynez, etc, and put some highway miles on that puppy. Also consider refueling at a different gas station. There are some 100 octane pumps, near you http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...locations.html which you should try out with a few gallons to see if anything improves.
And you should also have a gander at this article about winter blend fuels:

Wondering if there was any resolution to this? I have 9k miles on my 2014 A7, mostly highway miles. My 2012 A6 with exact same driving was getting 80 miles more a tank, roughly 4 mpg better. I've spoken to 2 dealers and both have said its because the A7 weighs a couple hundred pounds more. I don't buy it though.

I drove my new A7 to work today for the first time. I live in the Houston suburbs and work near downtown. I don't hit the worst of rush hour, but I do hit about ten minutes of true stop and go traffic on the freeway. I have a pretty decent commute with seven or eight traffic lights closer to home. I averaged 25.5 going to work and 24.5 coming home. Total miles for me is about 24 each direction.
