Transmission Mode in DIS
On my 2014 A7 Prestige when I put the transmission in sport mode the display changes from a D to a S above a triangle that points down to a D. Neither my 2013 Q5 or my 2017 Q7 do this, the display switches from a D to a S. This could be confusing to some and seems bizarre to only be seen on the A7.
Does anyone else have this on their A7?
I have OBDeleven, but I didn't see an obvious way to change this behavior. I just see the choices for showing the gear number.

My 2012 A7 does that sometimes. I have seen it after using the downshift when descending a long hill.
I recently changed the display using VCDS. It shows "D" and the gear number. I haven't tried it in manual mode yet.

It does that on my 2013 Premium Plus (even after using VCDS to change the display to show the gear number). On my car, it's indicating to pull back on the shifter again to go back to normal D mode.

I wonder why Audi only did this on the A7/S7?
The only reason I could see them doing this is if the transmission mode was persistent. A different driver takes the car and they might not be aware that the transmission mode is persistent and it's in Sport mode. By using this type of mode display it let's them know it is in Sport mode and the can easily put it in Drive by pulling the selector back. But since the car always starts in Drive mode it's a poor User Experience (UX) choice.
Also in the Owners Manual it discusses Drive, Sport and Manual modes and but never states that in Sport mode you see that oddball display.
