Tried ATT sim card on my A7....
Under the new A6 section other members have been discussing if it would be possible to use the sim card from ATT on our cars.
Using the appropriate info:
APN: wap.cingular
username: WAP@CINGULARGPS.COM
password: CINGULAR1
I was able to use ATT sim card for google map ONLY. Other online functions of the car don't seem to be working with the ATT sim card. Plus, you only get 2G instead of 3G - see attached photo.
This somehow means that the online module is not "locked" to T-mobile only, and it could just be a compatibility issue.
If I am able to use an ATT sim card and get 2G for Google Maps, why can't I access other online info?

T-mobile SIM in an iPad
I'd be curious if the T-Mobile SIM card would work in a 3G iPad.
(You'd need to cut the card down to a micro-SIM and use an adapter to get it back in the car).
I can't test it because I don't have a 3G iPad yet (waiting for the rumored HD one). But still an interesting concept.

I know from the German A7 that they can use the bluetooth connection to the phone for data as well, ie you could use your verizon phone to provide a data connection for the MMI.
Maybe there's something that can be changed with Vagcom.

Oh yeah? That's what I think would be ideal. Basically the car uses a cell phone's data (tethering) for navigation and other stuff because nowadays more and more people have data on their cell phones already.
