I am looking for recommendations where to buy a VCDS for our Audi A7.
I want to use it to reset codes for the heated seats and steering wheel etc.
I am not familiar with doing this at all so I want to understand what I need to buy. When you buy a VCDS are you getting a physical diagnostic tool or just software? Do I need to buy a specific cable to attach the tool?

You need a cable that connects to the obd connector in the car and to a USB port of a computer. You also need the software. Both of these are available from Ross-Tech (Ross-Tech: VCDS).

There is a much cheaper item that can do what you are mentioning (and an awful lot more), called OBDEleven (https://obdeleven.com/en/) from Voltas IT. This one is a small device that plugs into the obd connector in the car and you interact with it using Bluetooth on an Android device like a phone.

I bought mine from Ross-Tech website. Shipped pretty quickly and is pretty easy to setup.
