Default A7 (A6/A8) PHEVs Coming

Interesting read on the new A6, A7 and A8 PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) coming to Geneva show. In performance version (S-Line) 363hp. 25 miles of range when in electric mode. No mention of release dates.

With the saving for over 25 miles of range, you can probably save just a little over $1.50 a month. Multiply that by your life expectancy then you could save almost a hundred dollars. Of course, this assumes that you keep the car for just over 48 years!

Depends, I could theoretically do about 99% of my driving all electric with 25 miles. However, with that little driving my fuel costs are already very low and still having a gas engine I don't save on maintenance.

Your formula is wrong

Here's a different one. It costs £10 a day to drive in the London congestion zone, a bit over US $13 a day, so around $395 a month. Or around $227,000 on your expected life span. Which you won't pay with one of these models.

That's just one example. There are hundreds of cities throughout Europe that have or will restrict and / or ban ICE vehicles.

The OP's posted article was just a partial rehash of Audi's press release. The intent of the Hold function is that it will not use any of the battery charge until you release it. Meaning commute to work on gasoline, and then release Hold to allow the final section into work, or wherever, on the battery.

You are probably not the target market for these cars.

Assuming it's regular PHEV and not performance PHEV, then once range is depleted, it still operates as a hybrid and that's in city driving 30-40% typical savings. Highway less but majority of people will have mixed driving (especially most experience traffic jams regularly).

In addition, there are big rebates in most countries/states to make up for the extra cost. That said, not sure if Audi will make these PHEV models cost attractive. They don't have a good track record when it comes to that and it may be very limited volume as well. But we will see.

Also don't forget it's not just about cost, it's great to coast silently and not having to go a gas station often if you can cover smaller daily distances.
