Re: "Does anybody ever really buy a car through eBay?" I bought a perfect Porsche 993 '97 Cabriolet,

no complaints against the high end resellers. Most are going to the Manhiem Auction and picking up the sale "used cars" which are not off lease vehicles. Plenty of these guys are wholesalers picking up off lease cars, so alot of the time you can cut out the middle man with the right ebay wholesaler.

I bought a 2000 Lincoln LS, very nice until I wrecked it...

The airbags did not deploy - a very serious problem to me. I bought from a respectable seller, however he was just a dealer and couldn't possibly have known whether the airbags were good or not. I don't blame him, but buyers beware! Most dealers on ebay sell vehicles that they have purchased from local auctions. Their big claim is that they were "executive leases" or that they were purchased from "credit companies" such as Ford Credit who leases vehicles and sells them cheaply after the lease is up. But in actuality most of them are just fixed wrecks (that havn't been reported to insurance agencies, therefore won't show up on carfax). I recommend Autotrader, more legit (but higher prices). You get what you pay for in most cases.

http://www.autotrader.com

I do it all the time. I just bought my A8 and sold my S4... No problems.

Just be resonable and try not to put yourself and your $$$$ at risk...

I agree! I backed out of an A6 after seeing the car with obvious fixed wrecks, but had CLEAN carfax.

My car was my first ebay purchase

I didn't even buy it through auction, had never bought anything through ebay, called them and we settled on a price.

In hindsite, I got a real good deal, a really clean car, but it did have a small amount of bodywork that wasn't disclosed. I didn't notice it until I owned it the second day, somewhere between Ft. Laturdale and Chicago at a Wendy's stop.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a car off ebay, not every car, but the right car.

I've traded a few...

Sold a 1963 Corvair (rust-bucket)
Bought a 1992 Caddy El Dorado... which I'm now about to sell.
