Default A "what's the car worth" thread

I am looking to get out of the S8 soon, and am curious what I can get. I won't trade in because with these cars I'm sure it's much smarter to sell private party to someone who really wants it. It's a 2002 Ebony (black) pearl on platinum (light grey) full alcantara (headliner, door cards, seat centers, etc). It has cold weather package, enhanced interior package, rear sunshades, parktronic, all bells and whistles except nav and the solar roof. Current odometer reading is near 56,000. Thanks for any input, feel free to make offers

Edit: the car is completely up-to-date and has zero issues right now. The warranty ran out about a year ago, did not extend. Also, new tires were put on few weeks ago, very fresh Goodyear Eagle F1s. All books and keys.

My guess is it is worth around $25K with 56K miles on it & near perfect condition.

Doug, did you get your new buggy yet? We haven't heard from you about the rare air of S8hood.

Default So if I get an offer for 30, I should take it? Here's the situation at hand

It has been almost 4 years and I feel it might be getting time to move on. Love the car, but I'm looking forward to a brand new, warrantied car. CLS550 with AMG kit tops the list. But I could definitely drive this car longer also. A friend of mine who owns an Audi dealer said not to go past 70k miles, because there is a serious value drop after that (tb perhaps).
So I was thinking, what if I drove the car another 6-12 months? Will I lose a ton of value with the car being 1 year older with another 7-8k miles? If so then I should sell it now. Or, have I plateaued in depreciation? Then I may as well hang on to the car and shop around again later. WWAWD?

Default Agreed - my buddy saw that car and passed as it had a few issues. I'd think your '02...

...should fetch $25k+ with those miles and options, IMO. Stealer's offer is typical trade and typical for them to try to score the car. Pass.

Sounds nice. Question: you sure your gut is Platinum? I've not yet seen Platinum alcantara, only tan and black (which does look rather grey in the alcantara areas). Querious.

Also, gotta ask... how's what seems to be a HS grad rolling around in an '02 //S8 and now looking AMG? //Silver //Spoon? Good fer you, must be nice! Heck I joined the Army out of HS to pay for college 8-)...

Default If you could get $30K for it, that's a great price

In a year it's going to drop to as low as $20K, you never know.

If you want to replace it, you won't get any more for it than today. And you can get an 03 S8 right now with 40K miles for probably $30-32K, so yours is a little behind that.

Good luck!

The interior is this one exactly (although my wood doesnt look as bright truth be told, it's birdseye):

Not sure if it's "platinum" or "tan" but I saw platinum as one of the choices on Autotrader and assumed this is the name. It's more of a grey than the tan but they gave it a better name I suppose.

Haha I was waiting for someone to ask that. In fact the S8 isn't mine. My dad bought it and got me into the Audi scene. I have always been a huge auto enthusiast and nowadays I'm the one teaching him about the latest cars and engines and all. I got my first car 18 months after the S8 was purchased. I got lucky and after a deal on a B5 A4 fell through my budget doubled and I got an S4. Sold it before college because it was worth something, invested, so now I drive the S8 alot more and have no real business on the B5 S4 forum so I come here lol. But my dad and I work closely on matters involving cars because he trusts me, and the only way he's gonna sell the S8 is if it's worth something (much like why I sold out of the B5). Best way to get the best price is to approach enthusiasts, thus I come to AW.

So there you have it. S8 isn't mine, I'm waiting a couple more years before getting into something nice again.
