The time it took to change out the front axle on my S8 with a replacement one from raxles.com
We put it up on the lift, Gabor used two cheater bars to get the axle bolt loose.....impact gun to get the 6 bolts out of the transmission....then removed the suspesion side of the curved control arm, removed it....pulled the axle out....new one back on....less than 10 minutes.
What else I did:
Changed all four corner brake pads with OEM pads, changed out the brake fluid with ATE blue.
I bought a new engine coolant temperature sensor because it was not reading at the 11 o'clock position and I have had a fault code stating that the G62 temperature sensor had a low signal ($25 from dealer) and Gabor installed it. It seems as it is re adapting to it....but read just a tiny, tiny bit below 11 o'clock tick, but it's coming up.
Cleared my check engine light this morning, it came back on the way to Gabor's with a lean code on bank 2, plus I had the vacuum line problem....fixed everything above, cleared the code again....and drove home....nothing so far.
Thanks Gabor! Tony Pai also came by to drop his car off and we had lunch.

It's so nice having a lift to do stuff like that.
One of the first things I did on my lift, was a CV boot on the A6 when Ray was here for a week. Happened to have a boot kit laying around, so when we noticed the boot, we didn't have to go anywhere / wait to mail Raxles.

Hey - you can get paid for that ECT sensor replacement
There was a service bulletin and warranty extension out to 100k miles for it - I just sent my reimbursement and receipts back in to Audi USA. I have the paperwork at work so don't have the bulletin number.
Every little bit helps.
How easy were the pads?

Clicking when turning is indicative of a bad CV joint, correct?
Clicks both ways, think I'm due for raxle axles here soon.
You know, I can't help but wonder if there is some kind of conspiracy behind these high-end german cars. Something to do with tiny design flaws here and there to keep the $$ rollin in.
I mean, come on, how hard can it be to make an OEM CV joint boot out of a more durable material? Just things like that. I guess it's just the woes of owning a car like this.

Why not just replace the boot? How much was the axle? I have to do a CV boot on my A6
just change to winter wheels and found a tear today. There is a guy in town here with the equipment to do the change for me. I think last time it was $25 or so and I supplied the boot. Would it be cheaper to go with raxels?
