1997-1999 D2 A8 Radiator Support Work Safety Tip
I used to do contractor work at a wafer fab of the HP Company in Silicon Valley, and I recall posters showing the eyes of a pretty young lady, and the warning: "Irreplaceable ... wear your safety glasses." This was a stark reminder, for me. I don't enjoy wearing safety glasses, though .. they can be a distraction, and they limit my peripheral vision. So, they protect me in case of an accident but ironically they might make an accident more likely.
When I work on a D2 A8, I spend a lot of time near the sharp front edges of the fenders, and I don't want to poke my eye out, and I'm not always wearing safety glasses nor can I be sure everyone around me will wear them, so I use masking tape to put empty water bottles or milk bottles over the sharp edges.
That also protects the paint from damage. However, today I didn't do so on a timely basis, and while I was (wo)manhandling the front radiator bracket into its 90-degree position, and managing the various hose connections to not strain them, I nicked part of the paint on the driver side fender. Dangit. More reason to be diligent about this ...
