Does anyone out there know how much a new vs. rebuilt 1997 A8 transmission should cost? What about labor too?

new about $12,000 plus labor remanufactured between $2500 and $4000

I got the quote for $2550 with rebuilt installed with 24/24 warranty. Accurate test drove my car and it just goes into limp mode if you slam on the brakes. The guy just said not to slam on the brakes and drive the car. It's fine but I will eventually take it in for the $2550 special. Get the flush and it may delay the replacement. My trans is sloppy when I get on it but if I drive it like a old guy, it's fine.

and reinstalled in my car just 6 months ago. Can't beleive the difference! absolutely unbeleivable. She shifts like a dream! Good luck if you have to do it.

Don't have the dealer do it - unless you want to spend twice as much!!!

If I had to do over I would probably buy a ZF rebuilt ($3500 ish) and have a transmission shop do the replacement.
