2000 A8 4.2 quattro wont start
 

I recently changed the tensioner pad in B1, put everything back together but the car just won’t start!!!
I should also mention that the car has been sitting for 1 ½.

Here is what has been done so far:
-The battery is brand new
-the fuel pump fuse is ok
-the fuel pump is working when I manually charge it with 12V, but it does not work when key is turned on/off
-the fuel relay is tested, and it clicks when key turned on/off

I do get gas flow in the fuel line under the hood once I manually charge the fuel pump with 12v, but nothing when the key is on or even when the car is cranking. The car basically cranks but does not start.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Sounds maybe like the engine speed sensor ("crank position sensor"), which sends power to the fuel pump relay ONLY while engine is cranking or running. Otherwise (when all is working correctly) the pump will only run for about 2 seconds ("priming") when key is turned to ignition..and only on the first try.

As with most anything on these cars, a VagCom code scan is essential to read codes .
