2001 Audi S8 Transmission Interchange
I just bought an S8 with "transmission" problem. My dad has the car currently but he thinks it may just have a trans/motor mount issue, bcuz it only does it from a dead stop if you try to stomp on it. He's says that it bangs pretty hard.
Anyways I know these things have issues with trans anyways so the question is.....does anyone know if a newer auto trans will go in the D2 S8? Maybe a six/eight speed auto?? Thanks.

The good news is that if you could get the transmission to fit and also get the TCU for the new transmission to interface with the rest of the D2 S8 electronics you would be a highly skilled individual with tremendous earning potential.

Are you saying the transmission functions normally except under full throttle acceleration?
in that case the transmission is fine.
Sounds like a dud MAF to me.
The TCU/ECU use torque predictions to make smooth shifts. The MAF is critical in this calculation.
I had a stuffed MAF in mine and it did exactly as you describe.
The rear diff main mount also gets loose and cracks and will give rough shifts, particularly into 4th.
