Default 2001 s8 67k yea or nay

Hey guys I am a current owner of a e320 with 180k. I test drove a 2001 s 8 with 67k on the dash. I understand the upkeep on German cars. It just seem that the transmission won't make it pass the 180 mark on the Audi even with regular maintenance. The s8 drove great but the transmission worries me.is this a deal breaker.

I say go for it, depending on the price and the overall condition of the vehicle. I bought one with similar mileage and had my share of trials, including parts unavailability here in Asia, but still the best car I have ever driven to this point.

I love the look.

Cheers

Really? At only 67K, you're worried about an eventuality at 18OK (if you're lucky). How many miles per year do you drive?

If you're more concerned about longevity, rather than quality of life, buy a loaded new Corolla for the same price...and become a vegan

Plus when the tranny goes you can always convert it to manual and have a even more exciting car. If you're in the States you have the best expert over there on manual A8/S8 conversinons and LHD cars are easy to convert (ie all OEM parts).
Spare a thought for us Right-Handers.

Do you think I should change the timing belt or anything else right away

Not what I'd call "easy"...besides trans, flywheel, pedals, shifter, also requires different half shafts and a custom center drive-shaft...neither the same length as auto version. Big $$ for all parts and 100+ hours of labor.

One US company (I will not plug for) claims to do the entire conversion for just $12,500.
