2001 S8 - no reverse. Thoughts?
Got in my car this morning and tried to back out of the garage. Shifting into reverse, I can feel the transmission engage, but the car won't move at more than a crawl, regardless of RPMs.
Reverse was working fine last night, and all forward gears seem fine. No limp mode.
80k miles on the car.
Any ideas?

Thanks :)
It's at a local shop as of this morning just to verify the problem. They have a good local reputation and they only work on European imports (mostly Audi) so I trust them to diagnose it.
My regular mechanic is happy to R&R the tranny for $1500 and send it to a German race shop in Georgia (that will charge an additional $3050 to rebuild it)...with tax, about 5 grand total. (not happening)
I'll see what this shop says and get back to you. My schedule makes it hard to take 2 days in Chicago, but I'll let you know if I can do it.
Regardless, thanks for your response and advice. This site has been as great a source of information as Rennlist was for my Porsche.
