2001 V8 TCU replacement

2001 V8 TCU replacement
Hi, my gearbox is stuck in limp-home and I've got various codes for different solenoids faulty as well as TCU faulty. (resetting codes doesn't help, it goes straight back to limp)
At first it was a bit lotto if the gearbox was going to work or not when starting the car, and sometimes it would just pop out while driving, and sometimes it would even pop back while driving, and shifting normally again.
Thus I have surmised that my problem is electronic.
I've checked the big connector down on the gearbox and it looks pristine, I figured the next step would probably be to try and get a cheap second hand TCU and try to replace it.
But here was a world of chaos I soon realised.
I can't see the 4DO number from up top, but I can see the bosch sticker which says
GCKQ3G9517 0260002746
Googling the first bit gets me nothing, is this bit just nonsense?
0260002746 is a bosch part no, but when searching for it there is a vast number of different VAG/Audi 4D0 numbers that match it.
Going on the 7zap site there is no less than 11 (!) different variants, and I can't match any of them to my gearbox, at least not from what I can learn from my VIN number.
Could someone offer me some guidance here on which TCU's to pick from?
Or point me to where there is some information?
I have also figured that I will probably need to reprogram the TCU for my car, but changing the codes to match my car seems fairly easy, either to go a shop or buy some software and cable.
My VIN is WAU ZZZ4D Z 1 N 005627
Thankful for help!

It kinda sounds like you have an A8 and not an S8 although I cannot be sure. I understand if you get an A8 TCU from (model year in the USA) 2000-2003 it'll work however the later ones change the shift pattern and have a "sport" setting under D5 rather than D4 and D3. Your best bet IMO is to find one for an A8 or A8L 4.2 MY2001 or a MY2000 A8L, I am not sure of the production years but we go by model year in the USA. Getting that same part number 0260002746 would be wise. You could also get an MY2002 or 2003 and change the shifter as well to get the sport setting however in my 2001 I prefer to have D4 and less shifting around town and I use D5 on the highway.
Clean out your cowl drains as per Audipages:
audipages Unclogging the A8 Evaporator Drains
This page starts with the AC drains but goes on farther down to show how to clear the cowl drains that plug up and down the TCU. That might actually be all you need to do as my 2001 threw a bunch of codes when the TCU went for a swim but it was OK when it dried out. Maybe it rains where you live? And there are trees?
Skål,
