Default 2002 A8 starting issues

I have 2002 Audi A8 and sometime when I try to start it won’t start till I try couple of times. Other night when I was leaving work, I tried starting the car and it sounds like the engine will try starting but then all you hear is just engine trying to start. I let the car seat there and next morning when I tried starting it, started fine. It has done this before but after 3rd or 4th time it will start. First few tries it will try than when it won’t start I will take the key out of ignition and try it again and after 3-4th try it will start. I had this problem for few months but since it started, I didn't really look into that much. But this was first time where I had to leave it overnight to start. Can this be my spark plugs or wire? Any help would be greatly appreciated it.

Thanks

It could be a lot of things. Scanning for codes would be the first on my list. Ignition switch is second .......

Do you have to take it to the dealer to scan for codes or other local places do that? I am afraid to take it to the dealer because every time I do end-up with big ticket. Thanks for the reply. I was thinking may be I can change with small ticket stuff (spark plugs, wires, etc.)and hope that fixes the isseue. Thanks

Dream on...spark plugs? Not likely your problem (but if they are 30k miles old or more, you need to change em anyway)...and there are no spark plug wires (as such) in your car...not the kind that wear out like on much older cars. There are just low voltage signal wires going to each of your 8 coils...no wires that wear out there.

If you have a check engine light on, any auto parts store (autozone/advance) will do a free code scan for that type code.

For other codes you can scan with a free download of VCDS-Lite >>

...And a usb OBD cable that will plug into any computer and your OBD port under the dash....like this one (many sources) >>

Thank you Silverd2. I will try to scan for the code and currently trying not to drive just use it in emergency. I have been trying to trade in but have not found decent offer, so will continue that too. Thanks again everyone for sharing your knowledge and experties.
