2002 S8 Front Axle Replacement

PLEASE.. rebuild the OLD CV Axles
your OEM axles will last a VERY long time and are MUCH better than any brand of re-built axle.
I spent $200 getting my old Axles (ALL four) rebuilt. Eight (8) fresh boots were all that was needed.
Removed.. Rebuilt.. Installed.. $200.
I was prepared to get rebuilt axles but the gentleman doing the work suggested checking the axles for wear before ordering.
The dealership quote was $2100 for new Audi axles w/labor (nutz.) pc
Typically the inside boots will not be an issue. Outside boot on driver side went South after 20 years.
Find someone that will re-boot old axles since the will last/perform better than any re-built axle. pc

How many miles? I was tempted to do the front wheel bearings when I did CV axle boots on my S8 at 107K as my A8 needed a front wheel bearing at 90K but I decided to leave them for a while.

Help installing the end cap
Old thread but I am having a hard time pressing in the new end cups on the inner joint
do I use a wide pipe that engages the outer surface of the end cap?
what did everyone else do?
