See how much wider the track is on the D2 with D3 specific wheels on there?

Front and back, it's wider, and yes, it clears the fenders/quarters no problem.
Having successfully hijacked this thread...

Adjuster, Do you have the offset for those 20x10 D3 wheels?
And you have no fouling issues inboard or outboard, full-lock etc?
I had no idea we could go so aggressive with the D2 A/S8's!

I assume I can go 19x10 as well?

The 20x10 wheels and 275 tires are from Tire Rack, and for the "rear" D3 fitment. (I just told them to sell me 4 of the same rim/tires, and I'd take the risk, but they said it might not clear the front suspension, but it never hit the D3 body ever.)

On my D2, they seem to work fine, but I did find the left front fender skirt with some rub marks on the front edge, where it was poking up/out around the front bumper cover and fender area.

It must rub on very tight lock/turns.

Going over big bumps, it never hit the fenders or quarter panels.

The Bremmerkraft wheels in 20x8.5 with 255 Conti DW's on there don't hit anything.

I have no idea on the offset, but I think Tire Rack showed 35mm for the 5 spoke wheels, and 35 for the Bremmerkraft's as well.

I had a look through tire rack for a '2006 Audi A8' ie a D3...

Where the optional rear fitment of 20x10 is available, the usual offset offered is +35.
There was a set of ugly Oz's or something offering 20x10 with +40offset, but that was the only other offset option, and obviously further inboard.

I found what look like the 5 spoke wheels as in the photos on the D2.
Sport Edition ST3's. They're only offered as a close out deal for the D3 A8L in a 20x9.5.
Doesn't state offset, or offer a rear specific fit.
Bremmerkraft offered a couple of V-spoke or 'euromesh' styles, in 20x8.5 with offset +35. Didn't look the same as the photo though.

Most front options were 20x8.5 with offset +35. Some offered +32.
20x9 is also offered, one set at +35, one at +32.

So... clear as mud!

The offset is usually cast in the wheel somewhere. Either around the edge by the spokes, or on the mounting surface between the bolt holes.

The 5 spoke wheels are Sport Edition wheels.
They are 20x10 with 35mm off set. (I think.)

They are for the rear fitment on what was then my 2004 A8L, and I bought 4 of them, with the wider 275/30 20 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus tires you see in the photos.

They fit PERFECTLY on the 2004.
They fit pretty dang well on the 2001.

But they did rub on the front left fender skirt, at the front, near where it is by the bumper cover. (Not up under the fender where you would expect?)

The rear fits fine. Did not hit the quarter panels at all.

ON turning, did not rub that I noticed, but I did find the scrape/skuff marks on the plastic fender liner as mentioned, left front. Also, my fender liner is broken from prior owner, so it sticks out slightly, and that's most likely why it rubs, very lightly. (I would drive around with it no problem, and did for a few weeks while I was waiting to buy the Bremmerkraft wheels.)

The Bremmerkrafts are 20x8.5 or 20x9, I can't remember, and I'm running 255/30 20 DW Conti's that are amazingly quiet, smooth and wearing very well for a dedicated summer performance tire. The grip is amazing.

The funny thing about the 20x10 wheels on the D3 was it fixed the push condition when cornering hard with that car. With the stock wheels/tires, it would push at moderate speeds, and I was not very happy. My D2 A8 was a better handling car, but I had put better tires on it. (The Stock Audi tires, a P6 all season or something like that sucked for handling, but were smooth, quiet and seemed to wear well.)

I put the 20x10 wheels/Pilot Sport A/S tires, and it still was a nice ride, smooth, quiet, some slightly stiffer ride, but WOW when you pushed the car, it TURNED. Nice.

Now with the Conti DW's, it just turns, and you can be going stupid fast for street driving, and it still just turns an sticks. I've yet to slide these tires actually, it's not that I have not tried, no push, no loose, just turn the wheel, and point the car where you want to go, and it goes there. And with AWD/Quattro, you can mash the throttle, and the car just explodes out of the corner like it should. (Slow in, fast out is the best way to drive these nose heavy cars anyway, but good wheels/tires will push the limits up where most street use will not result in pushing that makes you pucker... )

Just to revive this a bit, as it sort of became a wheel fitment thread

S8 wheel fitment with 19x8.5's ET32 with 255's on standard (S8) suspension:

Not quite straight down, but you get the idea!
