Default '99 Front End Rattle...which link is bad?

Hi All:

My faithful '99 A8 - now with 150K miles - has a bad case of the rough road front end rattles.

Funny thing is, I replaced the front axle boots and transaxle seals recently, and checked the various front end links for looseness; and couldn't find anything that was obviously bad. I have already replaced the tie rod ends (a couple of years ago; they were obviously bad).

This car continues to be such a fine driver that I've kept it far beyond any traditional sell point. But, I don't want to put a ton of unneeded new parts in at this point.

I see Blau sells "kits" of various brands with all sorts of stuff. AZ Autohaus (my fav) lists 3 or 4 links in several flavors (Meyle, Febi, Lemforder, I think).

Is there a typical link or part that goes bad/ eg, lower control arm, upper rh. upper lh, or something? Does my (early '99) need a retrofit kit to install the new part(s)? Any simple way of checking the frontend before disassembly?

Tks,

john
