Default '99 quattro stalls very occasionally

hi, I want to run this by the BT before disposing of my car. It is great in every way except one: it occasionally stalls when pulling to a stop.

The stalling only happens once every few weeks or months. Stalling does not seem dependent on warm or cold temperatures. I can usually avoid stalling by touching the accelerator to keep the RPMs up a bit, but sometimes the needle just dives to 0 and the engine lights come on. Switching the key off and restarting the engine gets me going again.

My mechanic (not a stealer, a reputable Boston-area VW/Audi specialist) has spent several hours trying to figure it out and cannot come up with anything.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have. Failing some insight, I will probably dispose of it as I can't sell it to a private party in good conscience.

Could be TC pressure regulator valve. Put it in N every time you roll to a stop. If it doesn't happen in N, then the TC doesn't unlock fast enough.

That could be it. I put it in Neutral to see if that would keep the idle from dropping and as I recall that worked pretty well. But it was too much of a pain to keep doing it consistently. Will run that by my mechanic though he did swap out a couple of parts possibly including that one.

If you decide to dispose of it, let me know I could definitely help with that

yeah, the rear tire of a 18-wheeler tore up the right-hand passenger side of my car last year. luckily all that needed to be replaced was the mirror, panel, and front bumper.

My Audi cars never had the problem, but with other cars, the problems can be caused by the throttle butterfly is too dirty, some vacuum hoses may be cracked or even disengaged.

Cheers,
