Default A8 amps draw when running

I'm about 2 1/2 hrs. away from home and 1998 A8's alternator has failed. I have access to a battery charger and time to charge the battery overnight. My question is how many amps does the A8 draw when running at highway speed with headlights off and no unnecessary accessories?

You can monitor the battery voltage using the AC display.

Hope this helps and good luck,

Louis

That's VERY helpful and very cool. I was thinking to plug a VOM into my radar detector power lead. Much better to do it your way. To add a little "color" to the current situation, the A8's alternator was rebuilt about two months ago. I r&r'd it myself - major PITA. The shop that rebuilt it also upgraded the (perfectly good) alternator in my Testarossa when it was in for a major ($$$$$) service. That alternator failed after six months, but was made good by the folks at FoNE (Ferrari of New England). I must be taking stupid pills.

Like I always believe, if it works, don't fix it... I do not trust any hole in the wall companies that boast their products are better than multibillion dollars company designs UNLESS PROVEN with documentations and recorded experiments.
That's why I don't take my cars to the shops because I don't like to argue with the "MASTER" mechanics about changing things on my cars to make it better... hehehe. I always believe the less we touch our cars, the longer they will last and I'd owned so called the most "unreliable" cars like Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Peugeot and they all lasted long and reliable.

Cheers,

Louis

FoNE is hardly a "hole in the wall shop." http://www.boch.com/bochhtml/newboch...s/Default.aspx
I will attempt to drive the A8 back to its home on Monday. Made up a couple of cable sets to connect two additional batteries for the trip.
