A8 Coolant Leak

A8 Coolant Leak
I have a 1998 A8 with 80,000 miles and I'm experiencing an intermittent coolant leak. Seemingly at random I'll notice a small spot of pink coolant on the garage floor. Twice in the last 6 months I've had to add about a quart of coolant to bring it up to the minimum level on the overflow tank. At first my mechanic thought the problem was a bad overflow tank and they replaced it. Unfortunately, the leaks persisted. The mechanic now thinks the problem is the water pump seals. He says that the repair will require the replacement of the serpentine belt and would run approximately $1,800. He further says that as long as the leak is small and infrequent I might as well wait until the 90,000 mile mark to do the work.
I'm not at all knowledgeable about what goes on under the hood and I'd really appreciate some good advice and hand holding. I just want to know what's the prudent thing to do.

Very good chance it's the oil cooler....
....see the URL below, if it's coming from the right front of the motor, it's probably the plastic pipes on the oil cooler, a lot of people have had this problem.

http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/oilcoolerremovalreinstall.html</a
