As on many modern cars (VW's included), the doors may unlock automatically immediately after a crash...they may even have "pyrotechnic" (same as airbags) seat belt tighteners triggered during crash.

Just getting back to the original post,
Whether you want FL or PFL is a personnal style choice and governed by factors of 'more modern look', 'later model', 'better features' and of course PFL will be cheaper.

Engines:
The engine you want is largely factored by what part of the world you're in.
In using 'kms' for your milage, I'm assuming you're in Europe? You could also be in Canada, Asia, Russia, New Zealand or Australia...
Each of these markets have different fuel prices, expectations and cultures.

In Australia for example, we're similar to America in that traditionally we have a tendancy to drive long distances, are used to having large engines (though this perception is rapidly changing with all the modern turbo engines and dearer fuel), cheapish fuel and poor transport options.
As such, the only engines available to us in the D2 A8 were the V8's.

However, in Europe you don't travel as far, have expensive fuel (twice the price of Australia, and perhaps 3 to 4 x the price in America), often get penalised on road tax/registration for having large engines, and have excellent public transport links. Therefore the tendancy is towards smaller more economical engines, especially diesels. Thus the engine options of the 2.5V6 and 3.3V8 turbo diesels, plus the 2.8V6, 3.7V8 and 4.2V8 petrol's.

The 6.0 W12 is a rare beast and AFAIK was only available in very late D2 A8L's. Torquey beast of an engine with enormous complexity and thirst!

4.0 V8 turbo diesel is not an option on D2's and was only briefly offered on early D3's before the 4.2TDI replaced it.

So really, if you really want a D2 A8, find what's available in your market as far as engines go, pick what you want from what's available (and if you want quattro, you'll be even more limited, perhaps to V8 only) and go from there.

In Europe all the above engines could have quattro. 3.3 TDI, 3.7, and 4.2 V8s are AFAIK quattro-only.

The diesel engines are cheaper to run wrt fuel, but 2.8 and 4.2 aren't supposed to be too different. My old 4.2 gets 13 L / 100 kms for mixed use (measured at the pump, the computer says 11.x). On long motorway trips it gets 10 L / 100 kms. The official data for 2.8 is 10.3, so that's not much difference. (The official data for 4.2 is 11.6).

Quattro matters (per official data). You can check http://www.auto-data.net/en/?f=showS...&modeli_id=516
