A8 Daily driver-NOT!

A8 Daily driver-NOT!
I am looking to buy a used A8 as a daily driver
car, but after reading just about every post and
every page in this forum its seems like the best
place to drive these cars are off a cliff. Now,
I'am not bashing the car, because I really like
them, but why does such an expensive German car
have so many problems. Seals leaking, transmission failures, headrest broken, all types of failures, just read some of the post here.
Very expensive repairs, timing belt change 1000.00
bucks!!! A few years back I owned a 96 Lexus LS
400, now I know that its a "bland & numb" car, but it never broke, never and it had 120K miles
when I sold it. I just want a decent
car to drive and enjoy, and it seems like the
A8 is a maintenance nightmare that would live
in the shop most of its life.

This is what happens to nice people...
who read every page and nearly every post on this forum! LOL
I wonder if forums like these do scare some people off buying the cars? Naw, I think it makes people more likely to "catch" a problem as it develops it and have it fixed. Dealer prices for parts and repairs also arn't cheap so the forum becomes a self-help resource of immense value - which will then attract posts relating to fix-it issues and concerns about dealer service.

All input appreciated! I really don't
think there is a perfect car, but reading post
on this forum, has much value. I just don't
know if I want to trust an A8 as my daily ride.

It's one of the best cars out there for the buck!
Yes, you'll have to perform maintenance on it, but if you get a car with 30-60K miles, you won't have anything major for a while.
A TB costs me about $400 for all the parts, and I do it myself, add at least 8 hours labor for somebody else to do it.
All in all, it's one of the best sedans on the road for the cheapest price.

Think if it this way.. we only post when there is a problem or question.
I have had Audis since 1986 and yes they are expensive to maintain and yes the dealers suck, but there is no other car like it. No other car rides like an audi. BMW and Mercedes has the same if not more expensive labor rates and parts. That what you get with an expensive car.. This is not your chevy cavalier where parts are a dime a dozen and cost next to nothing. compare a Lexus and Infiniti to an audi no.. if you gonna do that then y ou should compare a toyota and nissan to it as well since the cars are exactly the same. My neighbors lex has been in the shop more than all of my audis put together. He has 60k miles on it and is on his 2nd tranny already. I would have to say that german cars are very expensive to repair, but if you can find an independent mechanic that you trust you can cut your repair bills in 1/2.
