A8 FAN removal
Hi, I tried to remove the cooling fans from my 99 A8 last night, following the procedure outlined on Audipages. Sure enough, the little 10mm bolts loosened up way too easily to get the big 32mm nut on the mechanical fan to rotate. I tried to heat the 32mm nut with a propane torch, but quit after a close call with the radiator hose, lol. It did not budge. Any other tricks that could be used to get that nut loose would be appreciated.

Meh, you could always buy the special tool
spanner wrench. That's what I did to avoid any issues. Works great.

some of the A5 B5 guys stick a stubby screw driver in from the back side to lock it
in place enough to break the nut.
2nd on the tool. I have the chopsticks and they make it a breeze. They'd be easy enough to fabricate if you have a drill.

Ok, I'll bite...What size Spanner Wrench do I need to buy? (Sorry, I just got this car and do not have the Bentley manuals yet. I have a set for the 1991 200TQ though)

You can acquire one here---->
or search around on the internet for one. When visiting this website, enter 3212 in the search box on the upper right corner, scroll down a bit and you will see the wrench by itself.

ZDMAK

Okay, I have a tool on the way. Where are the holes located that the tool pins slip into? How do you access them? I assume that they are somewhere near the 4 10mm bolts and can be reached from the front of the car.
Thanks in advance to all of you knowledgeable folks for helping me out!

The holes are on the fan pulley.
There are three of them, equally spaced between the 10mm bolts. It may take a little patience to insert the pins into the holes and hold the tool in place, but it will work.
