Thanks Matt : Will the A8 L be sold in Canada? Price?

five inches longer than the current A8. The 2001 model will retail this spring for $67,900,

Has the same problem as Jaguar XJ8-L ...

By adding an extra 5 inches to the rear door, the proportions look odd from the side (rear door too big relative to front). One notable feature with the LWB A8 is that only half of the added length (2.5 inches) goes toward increased legroom. The other 2.5 inches are 'lost' since Audi is moving the rear seat cushions forward by 2.5 inches to enhance rear headroom. I imagine the trunk space must be slightly larger.

I can't see why anyone who drives their own car would pay 5 grand more for a little more room in the back in a car that is already pretty roomy. If the car is used for chauffering heads of state, it's a different story.

You make it sound like LWB is an option?? I thought it replaced the current design?

Pretty sure it's only an addition to the A8 line-up

It's not a replacement. It will be sold alongside the normal wheelbase A8.

Is it just me, or is that a new rear bumper? (nt)

I'm 6'5" and wouldn't buy an A8 b/c it's too short, but would buy an A8L for $5k more...

If I wanted to take me, my wife, sister and her husband out somewhere, we are 6'5", 6'0", 6'4" and 5'10", respectively. While we could go out in an A6 or regular A8, the backseat passengers still wouldn't be comfortable, and certainly wouldn't want to be on a long trip. The extra backseat room would make the car worthwhile. After all, if carrying backseat passengers wasn't a real concern to me, I'd have an S4 (guess what, carrying backseat passengers isn't a concern to me right now, but I bet it will be in 10 years, so I have an S4).
