Default A8 Lowering Springs on S8

So since there are no lowering springs for the S8, only full coilover kits, I was thinking about getting the A8 eibach kit. It says it lowers the car about 1.5" all the way around. The S8 is already lower than the A8 from the factory, but i dont need the whole 1.5"... That would be too much. If i could get .75" out of them from the springs, that would be great.

Does the A8 springs fit on the S8??

S8s and A8s share suspension design the S is just lower already. I'm unsure how much lower you'll be though.

Per the A8 Wiki, the D2 S8 featured:

"A retuned, 20-millimetre (0.8 in) lowered sports suspension included a 30 percent stiffer spring rate and 40 percent more compression damping in the shock absorbers."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A8

If the Eibach springs give a 1.5" drop to the A8 then you should get another .7" by going from S8 springs to Eibach springs. Sounds like it might be exactly what you want.

I assume you already worked out the drop you'd theoretically net.

ETKA shows the same upper and lower spring seats for A8 and S8, so springs should be a correctly fitted swap.

But the rear upper spring seats show different last letter in the part # for "sport suspension" (S8)...so don't know if that's a different fitment or different material.

I believe that is a result of a different height and spring rate... -___-

That was going to be my next question to Eibach. I would like ot figure out what the spring rates are and the differences.

So heres the math for those referring later..

the Eibach site says that their kit lowers the D2 A8 1.2"

.2" = 1/4"

The D2 S8 sits .8" lower than the A8 from factory

.8" = 1/2"

Drop with EB Springs on D2 A8 = 1.2" = 1.25"
Difference Between A8 / S8 Susp. = .8" = .50"
Total Drop for S8 with A8 EB Springs = .75"

Basically your looking at about a thumb's width of drop......

**** WHATS SHOWN ABOVE IS WRONG ****

So heres the math for those referring later..

the Eibach site says that their kit lowers the D2 A8 1.2"

.2" = 3/16"

The D2 S8 sits .8" lower than the A8 from factory

.8" = 13/16"

Drop with EB Springs on D2 A8 = 1.2" = 1 3/16"
Difference Between A8 / S8 Susp. = .8" = 13/16"
Total Drop for S8 with A8 EB Springs = .6/16" which equals about 3/8"....

Yeaaaa... so i guess its really not worth it......

I'm not sure on this info, but.. I believe the S series spindles are taller (lowers) the S8.
The Springs should not change, other than having a higher rate than the OE springs.

Maybe a forum member will answer this question..
