Default ABS warning light

The ABS light comes on somestimes when I brake, I tested the ABS brakes while the light was illuminated in the dash and noticed that the ABS did not kick in, my car just skided. Any ides what could be the cause of this?

Its an A8 4.2 quattro 1998, done around 100k miles now.

Thanks

Default Clean your ABS sensors on all 4 wheels.

This could solve your problem. My A6 did that. I would start that car and all is good. However once i used the brake for the 1st time the ABS kicked in for a second then the ABS light went on and it disabled itself.
I pulled out all 4 sensors from the wheel, used some brakleen spray and a papertowel. It worked like a charm.

The brake warning light flashes and the ABS light is always on. I pulled the 4 wheel speed sensors and cleaned them with brake clean (they were very dirty).

However, the warning lamp ststus is unchanged.
