Default Another Trans Resource

While on biz in Phoenix this week I stopped by Phoenix Remanufactured Transmissions to check them out. The owner, Frank, gave me a quick tour and I'd have to say they at least appear to know what they're doing and seem to be pretty straight-up folks. According to him they have the only 3-point dyno in the west that can load all 3 power outputs required. He also showed me a revised sprag bushing that he says is the most common area of fault with the torque converter problem that too many of us experience... and they're the only guys who have it. They can either rebuild your trans, or sell you one outright, charging you a core fee until you send them back your old trans and will then refund the core charge. I will use these guys later this year... yet another resource (623-936-1148).

http://phoenixhardparts.com</a

I'm no expert on ebay, but they rate them with a 99.7% positive feedback... would love to hear from anyone who has Audi-specific experience with them.

Default ok, I didn't actually look but thought I heard some horror stories about them, maybe not.

I would be interested to get some feedback from an Audi owner. Thanks for checking them out.

Default Did he indicate the time to have a swap done?

Wondering if a one week in/out is possible? Would seem so, but any input?

Default I think they are way too expensive and I don't remember hearing anything good about them.

$2600 for the tranny +$1000 core deposit
$319 for the valve body +$400 core deposit
$300 for the torque converter (guess)
$800 labor (guess)

$4000 + $1400 = $5400 out of pocket.

Here is what I can get from eriksson industries

$250 for the torque converter
$500 for the rebuild kit for the tranny
$642 for the valve body
$400 labor to rebuild the tranny (guess)
$600 to install the tranny

$2400 + core deposit (I don't know what they charge). And if you buy the TC from Phoenix, you can save another $300.

Hey Bob, did you ever get the last of the vibration out in the drive shaft?

Default See C5/A6 board

Involving a 4.2/5HP24A. Long running story. I don't know who to believe, but it didn't sound pretty.

It would be a nice drive... you'd get the opportunity to stretch out the legs of your car. Bring your SPF 1,000 though, it was north of 100 the whole week. Don't know of any Audi shops down there that I'd feel comforatble with the trans swap, the whole time I was there I saw exactely 0 A8's.
