Default Armrest

Just Bought a 2002 A8 with only 71000 miles. The wife and kids enjoy the room which is the main reason we purchased the car. No issues other than the drivers side arm rest refuses to go down I have searched for a few days online and have made some progress but I have hit a dead end. I cannot seem to remove the drivers side from the center metal piece.I have pulled and pried but no luck. I can buy a armrest setup off ebay for around 150 but dont really want to spend the money if mine is fixable. Is there something I am missing?

Thanks for the help.

Have you tried tilting the armrest all the way up and then putting it back down? You have to remove the entire thing as a unit but I'm not sure if you can separate the two sides. The chrome cover in the center lifts up and then you have to unscrew a bolt. Hit the armrest side to side a couple of times and it should lift off.
