Audi will build new Magellan in answer to Mercedes Vision GST

The Volkswagen Magellan sport-utility concept has been approved for production as an Audi...
It reminds me of the Audi Steppenwolf concept (in picture above) launched in 2000. So why don't they release that one? Maybe because they want to share platform with "existing" models (VW Touareg/Porsche Cayenne)? Don't know, but I think the Steppenwolf looks better than the Magellan.

... read more here (+ pic of Magellan)

Actually, here's what's going on....
The Magellan may (or may not) be the next generation allroad. It will be built ON the next gen allroad platform but Audi has not yet decided if it will replace the allroad or fill the "official" SUV niche currently vacant in the Audi line up..
The Steppenwolf, contrary to it's appearance in photos, is rather small. It IS being incorporated into the new Audi "design" as the next A3, which will be sold in the U.S. for the first time. This new A3 will also be offered in "allroad" form that will have some resemblance to the Steppenwolf concept...
So we hear... 8-)

The latest reports in all of the Euro rags indicate that the allroad will indeed go the way of the Dodo, with a Magellan-based vehicle to replace it. Who knows, it may still be called an allroad, but it certainly will not be based on the next-gen A6 platform.
I totally agree with EuroA8, the Steppenwolf looks a million times better than the Magellan. I am hoping, hoping, hoping that Audi makes some drastic changes to the design of the Magellan before launching it. It looks like a Japanese car for goodness sake!
