Re: Is the Audi OEM battery available from suppliers other than the dealer??
My original lasted 6 years/80k, then in 2005 I got an energizer for 60 and installed it myself easily.
Try a redtop or yellowtop optima, if it fits

I replaced the battery of my 97 A8Q about six months ago
from a local auto parts store. It cost is about $90 came with 38 month free replacement and 84 month pro-rated period. Prior to the purchase, we measured the voltage, it was 12.66 volts.
And yes, it does have a vent pipe, and I also purchased $1 battery washers. The reset of code was simple I just read from the A8 manual.

2nd that ... I have a red top Optima! Fits perfectly.
Just make sure you get the regular (one size fits all). Not one of the special fits or special sized ones. Smaller and lighter than OEM as well. I've had mine for about 2 1/2 years. No problems!!!

Re: Is the Audi OEM battery available from suppliers other than the dealer??
The Audi battery is not available from suppliers other than Audi, it is made by Valero. I had an Advance Auto Part Battery in there, (it was not as big as the Audi battery, bigger than normal) and it lasted 2 years, and I paid around $80.00 for it, I am sure it is under a prorated warranty, but not worth the hassle. I checked other Audi dealers and they priced the same.
