Default Re: The deal on '04 A8L phone integration.

Dr.G. thanks for the info. I get my car this week (nightblue/amaretto) and will use your scheme for the phone. I'm not in the car so much and will use the onstar phone and keep a state of the art mobile phone clipped to my belt (that I have to have any way because I'm on call so much). Your solution is very useful. Do I understand you that with the onstar phone you can actually dial a number on the MMI or is the onstar phone only voice activated? Thanks Jeff

Default Follow-up: Tire/wheel situation.

The car that I'm considering (silver/saber - coming next week) has the 18s. My thinking was keeping the 18s with all-seasons for the winter, then getting a set of 19s next spring for the warm months. I assume people with 19s who live in winter climates are swapping out?

I hate the pain in the *** of switching tires seasonally, but I've also used dedicated snows the last couple years on my BMW and have been very impressed. Will the all-seasons be disappointing after using dedicated snows with RWD?

Default Depends on where you live.

If you live in the mountains and get a serious amount of snow, a dedicated winter tire would be preferred. If your roads get potholed in the winter, the taller sidewall of an 18" tire provides better protection for the wheel, otherwise even a 19" winter tire is fine.

In most winter conditions, though, a 19" all-season (combined with quattro, the Torsen, and ASR) is going to be fine. For me, the biggest advantage of a dedicated winter tire is that it allows running a max performance summer tire for the rest of the year.

Default 19" all seasons?

Honestly, I didn't know there was such a thing. I thought all 19s were performance tread summer tires. I just looked on Tirerack.com and they have a Michelin Pilot Sport A/S in 19s. Hmmm...

BTW, I'm in Ohio. We get some snow and this would be my daily driver, but we're not talking about "driving in the mountains" snow.

Default Or ....

The Bridgestone Blizzak is available in 255/40-19 if you switch wheels and/or tires and want to enjoy the performance advantages of a summer tire 9 months of the year.

Several here in the forum have had favorable comments about the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

BTW: I'm in SW Pennsylvania. Think about joining us on track at Mid-Ohio next year ... another reason to have dedicated winter and summer tires :-)

Default Re: 19" all seasons?

X, the Pilot Sport A/S is the tire I am going with for my 19s. They have a very good performance record and I dont mind changing out tires twice a year.

Default Re: So you only use the V60?

X, IMHO, if you are doing light to moderate calling, I would defer to On-Star for one reason: location, location, location. The location of the V60 and the armrests are too far rearward and it makes driving and phone useage very difficult or at least more difficult than using On-Star.

Randy, if I am changing tires anyway, would I be better off with Blizzaks or Michelins for the winter months? Would I get better handling and a quieter tire out of the Michelins when the roads are dry? Thanks!!

Default Got rid of my 745LI

I had a '02 745 I and did a colleratal exchange for a '03 745LI. Found out last month that BMW was only going to give me the value of the '02 and their new lease was horrible. I immediately went to Audi and got a 2 year lease with multiple security discounts and my lease went down over $300 a month. So far in 5 weeks I have 3,000 miles and virtually "no problems". As far as the phone, I figured out a good way to intergrate the V60 and it works great. I wouldn't mind having another defector join me!
