Default Brake noise, creaking, dry or worn pins?

I started getting a creaking noise when I apply the brakes. Coming from drivers side front. Pulled the wheel and had the better half hit the brakes. It seems the noise is coming from movement between the caliper and the pins. When the brake load is applied the caliper seems to have a little movement on the pins side to side. Could the lube have dried out or excessive wear on the pins? Anyone experience this before?

It sounds like the pins are dry. I would pull the pins, clean, and relube. Also lube the areas of the pads where they contact the caliper/caliper bracket. Use specified brake lubricant, NOT never-seize.

I've seen this on other makes and that's typically the fix.

i washed my brand new rotors with acid based wheel cleaner and i am getting this heavy creaking noise after that but only when at a stop when releasing brakes slowly.
I guess acid ate my rotor surface and now i am gonna try new rotors and hope they solve the problem.

You know, what's funny is that I noticed this on my S8 the day. Creaking when at a stop and I released the brake slowly.

I was thinking that maybe it's the firewall that is creaking since the master cylinder is mounted there. I've been told the firewall is flimsy so people have been installing a "brake block" to stop the master cylinder moving...

FYI I'm on new front and rear rotors maby 500-700 miles on them. I haven't used a wheel cleaner on the wheels yet since getting the car (shame on me).

Y888 I can't remember if i was reading here if it was you who picked up some 20" Final edition wheels (or D3 A8 W12). Got any pics?!!

Had exactly this symptom (creaking) a few months back. Had nothing to do with lube. When I took the pads out, they fell out in 2 pieces ... the friction material had separated from the metal backing.

Don't know how common my problem is (was) and don't even recall the brand of pads ... had been in there for many 10s of Ks of miles.

Yours may look OK, but disassembly exposes some odd things sometimes.

Cheers

The source is irrelevant ... how old are your pads? ...have you actually pulled them out for inspection?

Quick update on my creaking brakes, clean and lubed the pins and back of the pads and the noise is gone. While I was at it I did replace the rotors, Rockauto had some ultra rotors on discount and they seemed pretty decent and for $12 could not pass them up. I did find while doing the brakes I have a bad inner tie rod, so next project has been identified.

Also found a coolant leak, near the coolant expansion tank there is a small black cover that is behind the tank and there is a small tee that carries the coolant, it was cracked. So if you find a coolant leak on the drivers side of the car it could be this tee.
