Brake updgrade/replacement woes...
 

So the brakes on my baby are toasted at 120k and its time to replace the whole shabang, pads, disc fulid.


im all set with pads and fluid, i think its aparent that the ds2500's and super blue fluid are the choice to go with but i cant make a decision on discs.


do you guys find it worth the extra cost of drilled/slotted rotors? is the performance gain worth not being able to refinish them? how many miles can get out of a set?


are there upgraded rotors that are not slotted/drilled?

whats the consensus? and where is the best place to buy rotors from..cost/performance trade off i the best factor

Slotted rotors help with deglazing the pads and reducing squeal. Drilled are for looks (mostly)
 

With the DS2500 pads, I would try to find a slotted rotor, based on a quality rotor like Brembo. As far as lifetime of the rotor, you should be able to get 40-50 K miles out of a set. They really aren't all that expensive if you shop around.

Speaking of slotted rotors...Does anyone know a place that sells slotted only?

In the end, I went with OE non-slotted Brembos with the pads / fluid you note. Awesome performance, and very easy on the wallet. Slotted's started getting pricey. I've yet to be left wanting for more braking performance - uh uh.

Raceshopper.com for the pads, forget source for rotors may have been like VWAudiparts.com or something...

Just another option.

The now defunct BIRA brake kits were close copies of a low end MOV'IT setup.

When I investigated in 2004, I received these pricing quotes for my 1999 A8

Front brakes
322x32 kit with 4 piston calipers cost 2600 EUR net
342x34 kit with 4 piston calipers cost 3000 EUR net
342x34 kit with 6 piston billet calipers cost 4000 EUR net
370x35 kit with 4 piston calipers cost 3875 EUR net
370x35 kit with 6 piston billet calipers cost 5000 EUR net
380x32 kit with 4 piston calipers cost 4000 EUR net
380x32 kit with 6 piston calipers cost 5200 EUR net

The salesman I spoke to implied that these prices are semi-negotiable.

and David Zeckhausen (who incidentally bailed after I started asking questions), I ended up with the StopTech Sport Stops. Centric parts bought Stoptech and as I recall rebranded their "premium" to Stoptech Sport Stops. Cost was $500 for all four corners.
