Broken sunroof

I ran into the same problem. I was very worried that something major had gone wrong. A very good friend of mine works at an Audi dealership here in Scottsdale had me do a little test...
Please be careful, you don,t want to get your sunroof stuck open.
He said that the switch inside the car sometimes goes bad, not A8 specific, more audi specific, and to check to see if it was the switch or the actual sunroof mechanism its self.
Very simple. You can roll up or down all the windows and sun roof at once by using the key in the door. I simply put my key in the drivers door and held it in the unlock position. After a second or 2 all the windows as well as the sun roof opened. Additionally, after everything was open, I turn the key to the lock potion and held it, windows and sun roof all closed.
So basically instead of a super pricey repair all I needed was a new control switch in the car. He had an extra so problem solved.
As far as price goes I am not sure. I think this is one of many parts on our cars that was also on all of the other models out at the time, B5 A4 and C5 A6. So hopefully its not too pricey...ebay maybe if its the same in other models.

My potentiometer/switch broke but it was easy to feel the broken-ness and the **** actually fell off. However I have a facelift (2000-2003) and the early cars have a different control, which one do you have? I got an A4 overhead console and swapped potentiometer/switch assemblies, paid $30 shipped, the part is over $100 new for just the switch from a dealer.
There was someone on the board with a new pre-facelift sunroof control FS not too long ago, if you need one you might search around.
