CAN bus vs K bus?
 

what are the differences between these two? what do they control?

I purchased a Concert II head unit to install in my 99 A8, but the Concert II has a CAN bus and the K bus; whereas the Concert I has only the K line. I can program the Concert II via WAG-COM via the K line (I think that is how it is programmed) so what is the CAN bus used in the Concert II ?

The radio's CAN bus connects to steering wheel controls, navigation, telematics and telephone...
 

and the K-wire is for diagnostics.

were the above mentioned functions part of the K-bus prior 2002?

No, they used separate, non-CAN bus wires...
 

with names like Clock, Data and Enable, whereas the K-wire is just one wire.

I've never heard of the K-wire being used to operate things -- I think it's only for diagnostics. Anyone know otherwise?

so, if I changed the Concert I to Concert II what functions would be lost?
 

I see that the concert II has a different pinout (due mostly to the CAN bus, I think). If I would rewire to match all outputs that are similar, what would I lose going from Concert I to II?

I have installed the Concert II and found problems...
 

I have just recently fitted my Audi A6 1998 model (non can-bus) with the new Concert II radio. However, I have noticed a few faults with the setup, these are:

1. Illumination problems at night with the backlights not switching on with the headlights (since fixed with a tech article).
2. Auto power off failure with the ignition.
3. Auto power off after an hour.
4. Front speakers not operating on occasions.

Does anybody know how to fix the issue of the auto power off after an hour? and also how to fix the problem of the ignition power off. I believe it is probably an easy fix by soldering another wire to the PCB and fixing it to the bus connector that has the S-Cont pin missing to operate this function, but as yet I am unsure which pin inside the H/U to solder this to.

If anyone has experienced these problems, could you email me and let me know how you have found a fix.
