check engine light on!
Hey guys,
Haven't written for a long time but not to say that I am not reading the board every night. This time I have a question. I just started my 2001 A8L (47000mi) and the "check engine" light was on. Turned the car off and started it again - the light was still on. The manual says I should take it to the dealer but I trust you guys more than the dealer so i wanted to just ask you if any of you may know what it might be or give me some pointer before I go to the dealer. Thank you in advance.

If you don't have a vag-com you can try this..........
Do three "cold starts" with no problems, and the engine light should reset itself. Three "Cold start" means, from cold to warm, then the car needs to sit for several hours before starting it again. It could take a couple of days to get it done.

Well, its not flashing. I started the car this morning once just to see if the light will go off but no - it stayed on! Then I just tried to start the car again and it didn't even start. It turns over, the battery is ok but it just seems like there is no gas coming up. I live in Wisconsin and it is 13 Degrees out (in my garage maybe 20). So I think "my Baby" is going to the dealer on Monday (on a tow truck, of course) to see how much this pleasure will cost me at the end.
