Default computer mpg accuracy

I think it's not.

According to the odometer and the gas pump, I got just over 21 mpg on my highway trip today.

According to the computer, it was just over 26 mpg.

Color me blue. And 100 bucks poorer for the drive to my parents' and back.

Default Re: computer mpg accuracy

You are in the same boat as I am on this one. I've had two dealerships try to fix this under warranty. It seems that for $75k you can't ask for a correctly calibrated mpg display.

While it does **** me off every time I have to look at it, I have to admit I'd rather have the faulty readout than a different car.

Default resetting -- computer mpg accuracy

The relationship between computed MPG and emperically measured MPG can be adjusted with VAG COM, I think, and I think in the instrument area. If someone is clever enough to know how for a 2000
with channels and values please post. I would say mine is a little optomistic. Thank you.

Default I adjusted this via VAG-COM, based on collective experience, but it's worse now...

Haven't done the math, but now I constanntly see 13.5-14.5 mpg. I do drive a bit aggressively, but rarely do I go above 4500, so I wonder if it's high time for another adjustment...

Default A few years ago there was one guy who was NUTS about this, and ...

performed all kinds of tests and measurements to determine the inaccuracy of the A8's MPG display.

The overestimation is ~10% iirc.
