Default Constant MAF 27.76 g/s reading on VAG-COM

Ok, I've got the 1999 A8 4.2 back together and I have a no start issue. The timing belt broke and I replaced the engine....long story. Anyway, everything is good, compression is 165-180 in all cylinders etc. I did the timing belt on the new engine.I have fuel just no start. Actually have plug fouling. On VAG-COM I have a constant reading of 27.76. If I unplug it its still 27.76. Any thoughts on this as to why its still the same number plugged in or unplugged?? Also if it is the Mass Air, have we come to a conclusion that the 1999 A4 1.8 Mass Air will work?? THanks everyone!

Default Don't know if I can help you

But:

1. Do you have any fault codes?

2. I have a spare MAF from a 32v ABZ engine that I will sell for $100 shipped if you need it.

No fault codes....Whats seems weird is that its the same value plugged up, unplugged, cranking, all the time. If It the MAF I'll definitely get ahold of you.

FYI: Damn I wished I would have traded you rims! I had a perfect set of polished wheels like you have now!! I wish I would have saw your post! I loved those wheels you traded away!! Ha Ha

Default Check the wiring on the Crank sensor. It's on the driver's side on the transmission

10 o'clock from the axle. It goes up by the firewall and has a 3 pin connector.

I will do that, just curious, does the crank sensor have a impact on the MAF reading I'm getting? Just trying to understand how this system on these cars works. Thanks, Aron

Bad or no signal will result crank, but no start.

Got it going.... It was the wires going into the ECM for the MAF. I did a wiggle test and pushed them in their housing better and the reading went to 0. Fired right up. Crazy thing!! It puzzled me for several days!!!Thanks everyone for the input and advice, everyone here is so helpful!! Aron
