Coolant Loss

Then we're back ...
.
to where we started -- finding an adapter that'll get oil out of the block and back in.
With that cartridge oil filter, the standard sandwich-type adapter won't work, which means you have to pitch the entire filter/cooler contraption.
I always make sure that the radiator is clean, but I do need to check that the shroud is well sealed, and that all the air that goes thru the grill can only go thru the radiator.
BTW: To use every last bit of heat exchanger capacity, I also run with the A/C in ECON mode and the passenger side heater on max (my apologies to any instructor in the passenger seat).

How about an oil cooler from a 5K series?
My 5KSQ and 91 200q both had a 12" x 5" (approx) oil cooler down at the bottom right of the front end.
My 91 200q had the regular type 44 radiator with an "aux radiator" which was about 20" x 6" high mounted below the bumper line. The hoses were the funky ones that T off the normal main hoses.
The oil cooler looked a lot like this:

Just out of curiousity,
.
Are the 5 flanges of the bolt holes of the housing in the same plane?
If so, a reinforced flat aluminum plate machined for the O-rings on one side, and two of these -AN hose adapter screwed into the other side, could just bolt up to the block.

Re: Just out of curiousity,
Randy, I like your idea. I looked at the casting, but I could not say for sure if the bolt flanges are machined on the same plane. Sorry, did not have this application in mind. Maybe when KMU pulls his cooler, he can give the answer. Even if its not all on the same plane, it is possible to have a plate machined. The complication would be the fabrication of the alternator bracket to this plate.

Re: Coolant Loss - THANKS
A delayed "Thanks" to all those posting. I haven't been able to check the board until this morning and wow.
I've checked the oil and it looks fine so I'm not quite as worried. The car is going in for service and to address the list of repairs (Audi Assured Warranty is up in May). I'll let you all know what the dealer finds.
On a somewhat related note, can anyone recommend a good shop in Atlanta to address a "rotor warp" problem (probable upgrade?). Audi's been paying to replace the rotors (every 5 to 7 k miles) but I'm guessing that they'll be a little hesitant to continue once the warranty is up.
Thanks again to all.
