D2 A8 Heated Steering Wheel Poll

My wife's is a 98 and it doesn't have heated seat so obviously, it doesn't work because it never had a heated wheel.
My 2000 has heated seats and the wheel doesn't work but I'm not sure if it came from the factory with a heated wheel. As shop looked at some wiring and said the car didn't have that feature, but I thought all with heated seats have it. Is there anyway to check numbers, etc and verify if it originally had it?
It's an A8L and has every other conceivable gizmo so I don't know why no heated wheel.

I think having it broken is probably a good thing - I remember Chris Semple at Force 5 (Audi dismantler/recycler in the NE) telling me he'd seen a shocking number of cars coming in with a burnt interior where the fire started with the steering wheel.
That said - have driven some BMW's with heated steering wheels and it is indeed a nice thing to have :-D

Fire hazard from the wheel is hard to imagine, when it's designed to only reach a medium single heat range...unlike normal seat heaters, which feel like 1st degree burns on high ("5" & "6" settings)..I find "4" setting hard to take and above that is just painful for me. My wife likes the highest settings, but you know women
