D2 A8 Heated Steering Wheel Poll

Just for fun. See my response for a format example.

In the subject line:

Is it working - Yes/No
Car model year, 2 digits.
Has it ever been replaced?

Any commentary in body of thread.

It is my opinion from reading the forum for a while that most don't work. It would be nice to see some survey results, and maybe get some lurkers to post.

Re: D2 A8 Heated Steering Wheel Poll

The heated steering wheel on my 1998 A-8 worked for approximately two years then was replaced under warranty in 2000.
The replacement wheel works but the thermostat shut off recently appeared to be mal functioning because the wheel gets very hot before shutting off.
I'll probably replace my heated wheel with a non heated sport wheel with tip controls.

So - Yes with caveats; 98; Yes

And tell me more about replacing with a tip wheel. I need one of those! Have you researched it? How do-able is it?

YES / 99 / YES - replaced in '00 under warranty

Really noticeable heat up when very cold and button set on 6. I think it shuts itself off after inital warming as the steering wheel is then "had enough" so it won't burn out the element. I think that is why it was replaced in 00, because I remember when I first got it the wheel stayed HOT much longer. There may have been a tech notice or change in lenght of time it stays heated to avoid element burn out, but am only guessing.

At least I don't think it's been replaced. I bought the car in the fall of 2002.
