I'm thinking about replacing the family station wagon with a D2 A8. I love the way they look and drive. My concern is parts availability and cost. How do parts prices for these cars compare with other manufacturers. The car is for my wife, and she has to be convinced by more than great looks and ride.

Depends on the part. Overall I'd say parts are a little higher then your average priced car. If you do your own work though you still save. You have to remember you are buying parts for a car that 12 years ago when new was 80000 so they had to come up with that price somehow and after buying some parts for it I know why. Then you can also look at the comparision of buying a domestic 12 year old car to a 12 year old Audi. I'll take the Audi anyday cause in terms of the long run I would totally see spending more to maintain the 12 year old domestic then the 12 year old Audi even given the more expensive replacement parts. As far as availability, that really depends on the part. Some parts I've gotten that day and some I've waited up to 2 weeks for. Probably depends on where you live and what type of local parts resources you have also. Most of my parts now I get through the internet and just have it shipped luckily I have the luxury of having another car to drive while I wait to get parts to fix the Audi.
