Wondering if anyone has tried the new TomTom or Magellan iPhone mounts with the built-in GPS chip that augments the GPS in the iPhone?

I got a navigation app for the iPhone but my windows are too much for it. I'm going to try the Magellan mount when it comes out in early January and see if the more powerful chip/antenna in the mount can get through the window interference.

If anyone has already tried it, let me know. Otherwise I'll report back.

It finally arrived yesterday and short answer is no. Open the sunroof and its great. Not realistic longterm living in the Northwest though.

No GPS for me in this car I guess. No way I get approval for installing a GPS antenna and nav unit.

For the record I was trying the Magellan mount and the Navigon iPhone GPS App.

The only thing that really bugs me though is that I also have an AMOD 3080 GPS data logger

which uses the SIRF III chipset and it has no problem sitting in my cupholder and tracking everywhere I go. Sunroof closed and everything.

Guess the Magellan mount doesn't use the SIRF chipset ...
