Dead Radio?

Dead Radio?
I'm having issues with my radio in a 2001 A8L I originally thought were related to a old battery. I replaced the battery and the radio came up safe and the code worked well and life went on. Recently I would start the car and the radio was dead, no safe, no lights, nothing. A week would pass and then I would randomly try to power on the radio and safe would appear I would enter the code and life went on. Recently the radio went out and nothing was working. I checked all fuses, trunk, back of radio and kick panel, all were fine. I disconnected the battery and put the +- cable ends together, something I read on the Ross tech site. Put back on battery and safe came on, radio worked for two days. Now nothing.
I've read about the power management computer and new batteries, but don't have a vag com. Could the car sense a battery issue that may not exist and turn off the radio? All other items work fine.

you can buy the facelift a4 radio on closeout and swap the faceplates.

The radio finally died and I I switched the face plate and back housing and all is good now. Great write up for the screw locations, made the job go that much faster. Thanks
You'll find that it's a little more than switching face plates...not difficult, though >>>
