Default Drivers Armrest for UK Audi A8

Can anyone help? I have a 95 A8 quattro sport 4.2 and have managed to snap the drivers armrest. Does anyone know of a used one going spare (preferabley in black leather). Audi want around £400 which is just a bit over the top. I tried to use epoxy resin on it to glue it back together but the metal used is so cheap (monkey metal I believe) that it all just fell apart. Any help would be gratefully received

Default email me... I got one from a guy in germany

it was the 2000 style, but I think that it'll fit. the leather is a bit different grain quality, but not too noticable...

Default Installation could take a while or might be very easy....

After looking at the Bently diagrams for the old and the new style arm rests, it appears that installation of new arm rest could require removal of the center console.

The only reason this would be required is to change the assembly that the armrest mounts too. It's a square assembly that is mounted to the tunnel below the center console. See item 13 below:

But I don't think you have this piece, so it's probably not even in the cards to do that.

I tried removing my center console last weekend to find the telephone wiring harness under the arm rests. What a *itch! Never even got it done. You have to pull all of the switchs and radio including the vents on top of them. I tried to cheat every way, no go.

Found the phone wire yesterday, tools required? One small Phillips head screwdriver. Just pull up the little piece of carpet under the arm rest (where you can store your coins) and there is a little stainless plate that is removed to get to the harness. Using the installed wiring harness for my phone hook up, almost done!

Anyway, if it was to work, it might be pretty easy. What you will need to do is to pop the cover on the armrest stainless steel piece (with a screwdriver from the front) then undo the following long allen head screw:

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/images/armrest1.JPG">

The leather arm rest pieces just pull out on each side then.

Then the stainless post must be removed. The Bently states to "To remove, unscrew bolt - 8 - (the long one in picture above) and using plastic hammer hit from side onto bracket". I think that means tap on it from the side and it will come loose. I couldn't get mine to come loose the other day. But I didn't try taping on it. The darn Bently is so hard to follow sometimes, you have to jump from one procedure to another to see it all. Guess I didn't see that part.

From there, your new arm rest has this stainless steel post piece installed, and if it's going to work, all that needs to be done is to screw it in place.

Here's a picture of a 00 and newer armrest from German ebay, note that it has the stainless post already installed (BTW, it is buy it now for 123 euros):

Here is the diagram for the 00 and later armrest:

However, if item "4" in the picture above is not on the 99 and older type armrest, I don't think it will work. If it's the same piece, then you are in business!

Martin (Subtitled), if you want to stop by and we can try it, this "simple" procedure will only take 15 minutes or so. If it won't mount on the existing bracket that's under the console, I think you're out of luck because you'll need the new bracket. Once you get it, you'll need to remove the center console, which would probably take me about 45 minutes to an hour working quickly now that I know what needs to be done. But I've never taken the center vents out, so the tool will have to be made for that.

Give me a call if you want to do it.

If it does work, I guess we almost already developed the procedure for audipages.

Did you find out whether the newer armrest will fit an early car?
